My target 295000 Steps

I’m taking part in the Walk in Her Name Step Challenge in aid of Ovarian Cancer Action.

Every year, 295,000 women are diagnosed with ovarian cancer globally. Approximately half of these women will not survive beyond five years. I’m taking 295,000 steps in May to raise funds for life-saving research that will help these women, and the next generation, survive.

Please help me take 295,000 steps, raise £295 and move research forward. #stepforeverywoman

My Wonderful Mom

Saturday 2nd May
From her first appointment, it took Mom five months to get a diagnosis of Ovarian Cancer, which ultimately took her life within two years. On 1st March 2020, our family lost the most amazing wife, mother and grandmother. She was so amazingly brave and diligent in her journey, documenting all her treatments and appointments, always with a smile on her face. Mom fought Ovarian Cancer with everything she had. As the statistics show, this is a disease that desperately needs more research. Life-saving research into awareness, testing and treatments. It is a tough time for so many at the moment and these amazing charities are suffering as a result.

Mom loved walking. She would always talk about the benefits of walking on not only physical health, but mental health too. Mom and Dad went on so many scenic walks in different parts of England, it is how they had planned to spend their retirement. This disease took that away from her in those last two years. Mom and Dad’s gift to us on the birth of our daughter was the money for a ‘good quality pram’ as my Mom put it. She emphasised the importance of keeping active and it was her wish for us as a family. Losing my mother so close to giving birth to my daughter has been very tough. Many days have been about survival and my own healthy habits have taken a back seat. Now our daughter is three months old, I have embarked on getting my fitness back again. Starting slow, with a goal of 10,000 steps a day, but working towards a much bigger goal of becoming a healthy and active mum for my girl. When I saw that I could raise some money for Ovarian Cancer research in the process, it felt very fitting. These are hard times but I would sincerely appreciate any small donation or to inspire someone to do the same and raise charitable funds in the process. It is such a worthy cause. This is for you, Mom.
